We
aquired this clock from Uncle Bill, a dear friend of mine from California who
is a collector of old clocks, and who purchased this antiquity off of Ebay as
a belated wedding present to Todd and I.

I
need to find the original paperwork that came with the clock (for some reason,
I can't locate it which strikes me as very odd), but I do remember that the clock
originally comes from a Rhode Island Lighthouse that is reported to be haunted.
The seller and previous owner of the clock mentioned that at times the hands would
move on their own, even when the clock was not plugged in. There was also mention
of the clock itself moving from room to room on it's own, (????) which obviously
made me quite dubious of the authenticity of these reports.
For
the sake of interest, I asked my friend to make sure that the seller took a photo
of the clock before mailing it, which he thankfully did. Interestingly enough,
you can see that the seller's photo shows a different time than what the clock
said upon our immediate removal from it's shipping box. Could possibly be due
to movement due to shipping....rrrriiiggghhhtt?? Or did the seller move the hands
after the original photo was taken to try and prove something?

As
you can see, the large hand has moved about 12-13 minutes from the time it was
shipped.
This ships clock is OLD
ELECTRIC. And I mean, VERY old electric. When you plug it in and turn this creature
on, it makes the most horrible churning/whirring sounds. We are so used to quiet
appliances, that the noise surprised us. I kept worrying that it was going to
burst into flames or something, but it seemed to work fine.
The
coolest part about the clock besides it's obvious age and elclecticism, is the
wonderful old clicking sound that the minute hand makes. It reminds me of the
old "chuck-chuck" sounds that our grammar school clocks used to make.
As George Lopez would say, "You 'member?"
Now,
we did plug it in for a period of time (as you can see by the below updated time),
and while it was running, we could not get Ozzy away from it! He sat there for
almost the the whole 3 hours that we had it plugged in. He didn't necessarily
watch it or stare at it...just sat next to it. If you picked him up and moved
him, in a few seconds he'd be back on the table sitting next to it. I found an
animal's reaction to such a indiscriminate piece of antiquity very intriguing.
Must have been the whirring noises. But, I found this behavior interesting.

Now,
something interesting HAS happened with the clock that I cannot explain. Whether
it's paranormal or not, I cannot say.
The
ships clock is proudly displayed on an open corner curio cabinet. The time is
still as it says above- 8:24. This was the time from the last time we plugged
it in. Now we just have it proudly on display. It is NOT plugged in. So the time
has NOT changed in 6 months.
One
night I was home alone, and Ozzy was looking up from the living room to the area
where the curio cabinet is in the corner. He was just sitting, turning his head
from side to side like cats do when they are watching something interesting. From
where I was, I could not see the corner of the wall, the curio cabinet, nor the
clock, and I wondered what he was looking at with such interest. Then, I heard
some rustling noises coming from the other side of the wall, and as Ozzy turned
his head to the side again, I thought, well, I'd better get up and check this
out.
When I rose from the couch,
and right before I came around the corner, I caught a quick view of the clock
flying off of the shelves cabinet, and landing in front of me on the dining room
floor, face down. Now, it did not just seem to drop off the cabinet and fall straight
down...oh no...it flew out a few feet and landed near the kitchen table and very
close to where I was walking to. There was no reason as far as I can ascertain
for this to have happened. There were not cats near the cabinet, no earthquake
or movement, or any movement with the cabinet itself that should have caused such
a jolt. We also have other items on the very top of this curio cabinet, and nothing
happened with them. It struck me as odd then, and odd now.
Whether
from the fall itself or "something else," one of the top brass spokes
is now loose, which makes me very sad.
I
moved the clock to a different shelf, and so far it has seems to be "happy"
to be there. Maybe it didn't like the artifact it was sitting next to on its previous
shelf? That is interesting too, because the other artifact was a free gift to
us from the Ebay seller of the clock, that he claims also comes from the same
lighthouse estate. It is an ornate clipper ship inside of a small glass and wood
framed case. It is dusty and does appear to be quite old. Below is a picture of
the 2 of the items together on the day we first received them. (You can see that
this photo was taken following our plugging in the clock, as the time is now 8:24).

We
had the 2 items sitting next to each other on the curio cabinet.
Did the clock decide that it was "time" to move?
Ozzy
has seemed to lose interest in it as well, even when I put it on the table now.
Go figure!
The time has never changed
- it still says 8:24.
