Teens are encouraged to apply for a lifetime bird and small game license with an exclusive Bighorn Basin award honoring a Greybull biologist.
Wyoming Game and Fish has opened the application period for the Tom Easterly Memorial Award. Bighorn Basin ‘young people’ between the ages of 14 and 17 are encouraged to apply.
The Tom Easterly Memorial Award was created in the spirit of former Greybull biologist Tom Easterly’s belief in our future generations of conservationists. Easterly served as the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Greybull Area Biologist from 1992 to 2014.
Easterly died on February 20, 2014; he was 50 years old. The Wyoming Game Wardens Association established the Tom Easterly Memorial Fund, which provides the funds for the award.
Recipients of this award will receive a Free Lifetime Wyoming Game Bird/Small Game License and a Lifetime Conservation Stamp, valued at $496.50.
This is the eighth year that the award will give local youth a chance to win a Lifetime Wyoming Game Bird/Small Game License and a Lifetime Conservation Stamp.
To be eligible, applicants must reside within the boundaries of the Greybull Biologist District, which includes many communities in the eastern Bighorn Basin region.

Additionally, applicants must be a resident who has continuously resided in Wyoming for at least ten years immediately preceding the date of application.
Interested and eligible teens will submit an application and essay describing why they hunt and why wildlife is important to them.
Applicants will be judged on the qualifications of their application and the content of their essay by a panel of five people.
Fostering a culture of hunting in the next generation was one of Tom’s goals during his 22 years in the Greybull District, according to Wyoming Game and Fish.
“Tom’s passion was to introduce young hunters to the sport of bird hunting and to share with them the importance of a well-managed wildlife habitat,” says the department.
Applications can be downloaded from the Wyoming Game and Fish website and are available at the Cody Region Game and Fish office.
Nominations for the Tom Easterly Memorial Award must be submitted by April 1.
