Ghost hunting and history aboard the Battleship Texas

0

The Battleship Texas is one of the most sacred settings in Texas. He embodies bravery and victory, heroism and history. Would you pay $179 for an overnight semi-private tour of the ship, with a chance to nap on authentic sailor berths?

Who wouldn’t, right? What’s the catch?

Would you share your visit with ghosts? Well, that’s a possibility.

Would you share your visit with ghost hunters carrying EMF readers? Well, that’s a certainty.

The event is a “USS Battleship Texas Nightly Ghost Hunt”, organized by Haunted Rooms America – a company that “organizes ghost hunts for the public in the most haunted places in America”.

This apparently includes the Battleship Texas, which served the United States in both World Wars, is undoubtedly home to many ghosts – although probably more metaphorical than the EVP recorders.

If you’re the type to think a ghost hunt here might be disrespectful, Haunted Rooms owner Wesley McDermott assures you that the history of Battleship Texas will be showcased and a documentary screening will pay homage to those who served on the ship. But also, “any spirits that may be on board will have the opportunity to come forward and share their story with us if they wish.”

There’s a lot to digest here, let’s break it down. First, Battleship Texas:

  • Commissioned by the Navy as USS Texas in 1914, was a coal-fired force in World War I
  • Modernized in the 1920s and 30s, it would play a major role in World War II
  • During the D-Day invasion, the USS Texas hit Omaha Beach and Pointe du Hoc with shellfire, weakening the Nazi defenses.
  • On April 21, the ship was decommissioned and became a memorial ship and part of the San Jacinto Battlefield State Historic Site.

Next, the Battleship Texas ghost hunt:

  • Two dates are scheduled to date, June 15 and July 13 running from 7 p.m. until 10 a.m. the next morning
  • Tickets, $179 per person, are available at www.hauntedrooms.com/battleship-texas
  • Included are a ‘hybrid’ historical/paranormal tour and documentary screening
  • There will be ‘psychic mediums present’ and ‘group vigils with experienced investigators’, ‘solitary vigils’ and ‘high quality snacks’
