Ghostbusting is coming to augmented reality. Imprezario Entertainment has moved the battle against the impending apocalypse to augmented reality (AR). Ghostbusters: Fear of the Beyond is now in augmented reality and brings with it marshmallow males as well as ghostly creatures into the real world.

Ghostbusters: Fear of the Beyond

In Ghostbusters: Fear of the Beyond, you’ll work alongside the Ghostbusters to redeem the planet from a ghostly apocalypse. The title uses augmented reality to deeply immerse players in the new Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie where you will be cast as one of the legendary Ghostbusters. You will defend and save the real environment from the coming ghostly apocalypse. You’ll achieve this by strapping on a proton pack and then battling the supernatural entities.

The first two episodes of Ghostbusters: fear of the afterlife started on November 19and and were free. Additional episodes are premium and are planned for months thereafter.

Besides the camera and touch screen, the game also uses the LED light of the smartphone. It is recommended to use headphones because apart from the vibrations, there is also a spatial binaural mix for better immersion.

The story of Phoebe’s troupe is at the heart of the AR interpretation of director and co-writer Jason Reitman who is, incidentally, the son of Ivan Reitman who directed the first two popular parts of the film in the 1980s.

Crouch, dodge and catch ghosts

Players inside Ghostbusters: fear of the afterlife will uncover the city’s evil past and overcome it through various mechanics. To do this, they must evade paranormal attacks by moving their smartphones or they will have to clear the virtual slime from the screen if they misstep.

The approach of the ghosts with the flashing blaster also plays an important role in the trailer. Character interactions and solved ESP puzzles provide the Virtual Ghostbuster with Nuclear Cells for their gear.

If you misstep, you can suddenly find yourself electrified. After all, as Reitman explains, Ghostbusters: Afterlife has always awakened the inner Ghostbuster in us and grabbed a bundle of protons.

The tense ghostbusting adventure is loosened up with video calls from some movie actors. The list of guest appearances includes Celeste O’Connor, Dan Aykroyd, Logan Kim and Finn Wolfhard. Just like in Pokémon Go, collecting new creatures like the new “Muncher” seems to play a huge role in the game.

It’s unclear if or to what extent Ghost Hunting will also tie into a real map. It’s unclear if ghost hunting in this AR version can reach the popularity of Nintendo’s pocket monsters. It’s important to remember that even the Harry Potter AR game was a flop, although the Pokémon Go developer has since turned the game back on.

David Kwong is responsible for Ghostbusters: Fear of the Beyond mechanical. So far, he has mainly appeared as a magician, author and handyman of puzzle games like in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol or Now You See Me.
