You can spend the night chasing ghosts in an abandoned hospital in Liverpool

A terrifying ghost hunt takes place in one of Liverpool’s best-known buildings – and it’s famous for paranormal activity.

Those brave enough can spend the night exploring Newsham Park Hospital, the derelict building that was once a medical hospital and mental asylum before closing in 1997.

The Grade II listed building is described as ‘very active’ with many spooky areas to explore including the psych cinema, the ‘naughty boys hallway’ and the morgue.

The historic site dates back to Victorian times and has been used as an orphanage, mental hospital and nursing home throughout its 140-year history.

There are tons of ghost stories to come out of the Grade II listed building, with many former hospital workers claiming to see, hear and feel things.

Speaking to ECHO, a former worker said he was still having nightmares and was traumatized by the “pure evil” in the building.

Former hospital patients were also known to mention children and people who weren’t there.

Inside the abandoned Newsham Park Hospital

Once beyond the perimeter fence and inside the barricaded building, Haunted Happenings tour participants will have access to the sprawling venue for an entire night, including the Victorian Nurses’ House with long spiral staircases and dark corridors, to chase away the ghostly inhabitants who remain there.

The building opened in 1874 as an orphanage for the children of British sailors, and conditions are said to have been harsh, with siblings separated from each other and punishment meted out.

In 1951 it became a hospital, the remains of which you will see on the tour, with abandoned wheelchairs sitting in empty corridors and mortuary refrigerators remembering the lives lost.

The location has been used for ghost hunts for many years and there have been numerous reports of paranormal activity, including distant voices and dark figures seen rushing down the stairwells.

Ghost tours offer visitors the chance to experience vigils and seances, including glass divination, table tipping and Oujia boards, as well as ghost hunting equipment including EMF meters, K2 meters and more.

There will be several Ghost Hunts taking place at Newsham Park Hospital in the coming months, but you’ll need to be quick as they sell out fast.
